The Summer Horn

Temperatures are set to get even higher over the coming weeks and with the mercury hitting nearly 35 degrees in the south last week, it’s hardly a surprise that people are stripping off left right and centre.

It’s also no surprise that the desire to have as much sex as possible has also risen. We’re not sure entirely what it is about the summer, but it has had a horny effect on many people in the office.

It’s not dirty, it’s science
Never one to be outdone by idle conversation, I decided to do a little bit of investigating on whether or not the weather does affect our desire to have sex. We’ve all said at one time or another that sometimes we’re ‘in the mood’ and sometimes ‘we’re not’. However chemical balances in our body that have a direct relation to our desire to have sex are affected by the weather.

Chemistry Lessons
Summer Lovin’ might be a club staple and an excuse to dance around like John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, but the Grease hit also has more then an element of truth to it.

Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (MSH) has been linked to a woman’s sex drive increasing ten-fold. Sunlight elevates the production and secretion of MSH. So far so very sciencey but how does this relate to an increase in sex drive? Quite simple really; MSH regulates the production of melanin – the pigment that turns your skin a darker shade to protect it from UV rays. The more you go in the sun, the more likely your body is to produce MSH leading to melanin. The more MSH…the more horn a woman gets. So to break it down, the more sun a woman gets, the more sex she wants.

But what about the guys?

Serotonin is a ‘feel-good’ neurotransmitter produced by the brain. This chemical is released in mass quantity whenever we have sex. It is also released in mass quantity when we are exposed to sunlight leading to a heightened feeling of well being and an increase in MSH…which leads to an increase in wanting to ‘get it on’.

So where does this leave a fuck buddy?

Well, don’t be scared, but if you’re enjoying a fairly stable level of sex during the winter and autumn, now that summer has arrived expect to get a lot more demands for sex from the people you sleep with. The chemical transmitters in our bodies triggered by the sunshine will lead many of you to want sex maybe twice or three times as much as you want it on a standard week.

So there you have it; summer can and often does lead to a mass drive to fuck each other’s brains out as much as possible.

What are you waiting for? Get your sunglasses out, soak up some sun, and get ready for some serious sexercise.
